German director Michael Hampe, former Intendant of Cologne Opera, is now the General Director of the Dresden Music Festival and one of the world's foremost international opera producers. He has staged productions at Milan's La Scala, London's Royal Opera House, L'Opéra de Paris, San Francisco Opera, Los Angeles Opera, the Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich, the Zurich Opera, Royal Danish Opera, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, and the Sydney Opera as well as the Edinburgh Festival, Florence's Maggio Musicale, the Schwetzinger Festspiele and the Pesaro Rossini Festival. Mr Hampe has created a number of productions for the Salzburg Festival, where he was a member of the board of directors. For the Mozart bicentennial in 1991, he produced at Salzburg the three Mozart/da Ponte operas, 'Le nozze di Figaro', 'Don Giovanni', 'Cosě fan tutte'.
Michael Hampe is also Professor at the Cologne Music Academy and teaches as a guest professor at many universities around the world. He is an expert in theatre building and construction and has acted as consultant to many important new theatre buildings such as the Opera Bastille, Paris and the New National Theatre Tokyo.
Michael Hampe has published several books, most recently 'Alles Theater', a collection of essays, (Wienand Köln).
