Description
Steven Dibner

Featured soloist with the San Francisco Symphony, Steven Dibner joined the Symphony as associate principal bassoonist in 1983. He held the position of principal bassoonist of the New Jersey Symphony from 1978-1983, at the same time enjoying an active free-lance career in New York, performing with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and as a member of such groups as the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, New York Chamber Soloists, and the Sea Cliff Chamber Players.

Steven Dibner has appeared as soloist with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Jupiter Symphony, New Jersey Symphony, Parnassus, Colorado Music Festival, Vermont Mozart Festival, Chamber Orchestra of Oklahoma City and the Aspen Concert Orchestra. He has also been featured as an orchestral and chamber musician at the world's leading festivals, including those of Salzburg, Lucerne, Monteux, Aspen, Marlboro, Mostly Mozart, Caramoor, and Spoleto. He has been on the faculty of the Aspen Music School since 1986.

Also active as a conductor, Steven Dibner is Music Director of San Francisco's critically acclaimed chamber orchestra, PARLANTE. He has recorded on the Deutsche Grammophon, London/Decca, Phillips, Nonesuch and New World labels and is featured on the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra's recording of Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante.

A native of Michigan, Steven Dibner began his career as an actor and singer as well as a violinist, having studied with Mischa Mischakoff. Switching his attentions to the bassoon, he studied with Leonard Sharrow at Indiana University as a student of Stephen Maxym at the Juilliard School. Currently, Mr. Dibner is a faculty member of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
