(Born Turin, 1861, died Florence, 1939). Italian composer and music critic. Prolific composer in the Neopolitan song style, writing almost 300 in all, and of these, Musica proibita, Ti vorrei rapire and Jeden Abend unter meinem Balkon are amongst the most popular and frequently performed. He also composed several operas, although these works are seldom performed, and they include Maia Pasqua, Donna Clara and La Stellina.
