(Born; Mengeringhausen, 10 Aug 1556; Died; Hamburg, 26 Oct 1608). German theologian,poet and composer. He is known for two songs (using traditional melodies), Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern and Wachet auf (1599), both important in Protestant church music history.
