To my mind, his 60's and early 70's DG Chopin recordings are the finest ever. Whilst there are a few budget offerings on CD available in the UK, the bulk of his Chopin work is not available. Can anyone tell me if DG have released the complete Vasary recordings of the Etudes, Sonatas and Nocturnes on CD outside the UK?? Also, did he ever record the Preludes for DG? Seemed about the only set not offered by DG in the UK at the time. And is he still prinipal conductor of the Bournemouth Sinfonietta? Thanks Phil
Unfortunatley the Bournemouth Sinfonietta has folded!
My own memory of Vasary is a concert broadcast live from Hungary about 3 years ago with him conducting Liszt's Dante Symphony. This is a work that is difficult to bring off. His performance was the best that I have heard.
