Diva worshippers have the chance to bid for the ultimate souvenir from the personal property of the ‘greatest voice of all time’.
More than 400 items of clothing, jewellery, fashion accessories and other memorabilia belonging to the legendary Maria Callas are going up for auction this weekend.
Included in the auction are a pair of bakelite glasses recalling Callas’ extreme nearsightedness, a necklace given to her during the filming of Medea, and her good luck charm – a small oil painting entitled The Holy Trinity, by Cignaroli, given to her by her husband Giovanni Meneghini.
There are also pocketbooks, hats, blouses, slips, bustiers, scarves, gloves, belts, coats and shoes, by designers including Yves St. Laurent, Gucci, Valentino, Dior and Elvira Biki (granddaughter of Puccini).
The auction co-incides with GMN’s own contest to win one of 10 copies of the new Maria Callas CD (see our contest page).
